The 1857 Flying Eagle Cent represents one of the most significant transitions in American numismatic history. This was the first year the United States Mint moved away from the cumbersome Large Cent in favor of the "Small Cent" format we still use today. Featuring James B. Longacre’s majestic soaring eagle, this coin was only produced for a very short period before being replaced by the Indian Head design. Its unique "White Cent" composition and short-lived design make it a prized historical artifact from the pre-Civil War era.
