Up for auction/sale is a wonderful vintage 19th-century copper-nickel classic from the United States Mint—a 1858 Flying Eagle Cent (Large Motto variety) (Philadelphia Mint issue with no mint mark), offered in honest collector condition with light obverse scratches.
Struck in Philadelphia during the brief two-year run of the series, this historic small cent features James B. Longacre's adaptation of Christian Gobrecht's majestic soaring eagle on the obverse and a wreath enclosing the denomination on the reverse. This particular specimen is the desirable Large Motto variety, characterized by the broader, more closely spaced lettering in the legend compared to the rare Small Letter variety. Preserved in collectible condition, it displays clear design elements and an honest historical presence, accompanied by light handling marks/scratches on the obverse.
