Up for auction/sale is a wonderful vintage 19th-century bronze classic from the United States Mint—a 1864 Two Cent Piece (Large Motto variety) (Philadelphia Mint issue with no mint mark), graded in solid Extra Fine (XF) condition.
Struck in Philadelphia during the height of the American Civil War, this historic two-cent piece holds immense historical significance as part of the first year of the denomination's release. Featuring the iconic national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" boldly displayed above James B. Longacre's classic Union shield design, this specimen is the desirable Large Motto variety, where the letters of the motto are noticeably larger and spaced differently than the rare transitional Small Motto issue. Preserved in collectible Extra Fine condition, this lovely specimen retains crisp, sharp major design elements and wonderful original bronze character across both sides.
