This 1871 Two Cent piece is a highly collectible, scarce representative of Reconstruction-era American coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, the short-lived Two Cent series (1864–1873) remains a favorite among numismatists for its unique denomination and historic design. Designed by Chief Engraver James B. Longacre, this series holds a permanent place in US history as the very first coin to bear the motto "In God We Trust."

The obverse features a highly detailed, ornate shield draped with olive branches and topped by a scroll containing the iconic national motto. The reverse displays a bold "2 CENTS" denomination centered within a classical wreath of wheat and wild grass. With the mintages of this denomination dropping sharply in the final years of the series, the 1871 issue is a scarcer, sought-after date that is essential for any complete US type set.
