This 1920 San Francisco Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent is a premium, beautifully preserved specimen of a notoriously tough early branch-mint issue. While the Philadelphia Mint turned out massive quantities of pennies in 1920, the San Francisco Mint struck far fewer, and the vast majority of "S" mint coppers from this era were driven heavily into West Coast commerce, leaving them slick, heavily worn, or badly corroded.
Struck in traditional bronze (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc), this coin highlights the early, high-relief era of Victor David Brenner's legendary portrait with a crisp, bold "S" mintmark. For collectors demanding a choice, problem-free, and high-appeal branch-mint example to fill a notoriously difficult spot in an un-slabbed album, this piece makes an exceptional addition.
