This 1964 Swiss 2 Francs piece is a brilliant, highly lustrous example of Switzerland’s classic silver coinage. Designed by Albert Walch, the "Standing Helvetia" motif is widely considered one of the most beautiful and longest-running coin designs in modern numismatic history. Minted in Bern, this 1964 issue comes from the final years that Switzerland produced its circulating coins in precious silver before transitioning to copper-nickel in late 1967.
The obverse features Helvetia, the female personification of Switzerland, standing proudly in classical robes, holding a spear and a shield emblazoned with the iconic Swiss cross. She is surrounded by a ring of 22 stars, representing the Swiss cantons of the federation. The reverse features the denomination and date nestled within a beautifully detailed, prominent wreath woven from oak leaves and alpine wildflowers. For collectors of European silver, crown-sized world coins, or high-grade classic issues, this premium, uncirculated coin is an essential addition.
